See ๐Ÿšฉ Candidate Hard Gates & Red Flags for company-wide eligibility rules (B2B, English, compensation-expectations screening). What follows is specific to this role, including the daily explicit-content exposure and coverage requirements below.

โ›”๏ธ Top Requirements

  1. Daily explicit-content exposure: fully, unhesitatingly comfortable reviewing and discussing content depicting sexual themes, roleplay, and other adult content as the core of the day-to-day job โ€” not occasional or incidental.
  2. Prior content moderation experience โ€” for an online platform, reviewing real user-generated content at meaningful volume.
  3. Policy judgment โ€” able to interpret and apply moderation guidelines with sound judgment on ambiguous/borderline cases, not just follow a checklist mechanically.
  4. Excellent English โ€” including slang and nuanced communication; the job depends on correctly reading context and intent in user-generated content.
  5. Coverage: able to work the hours needed for global moderation coverage (see Location above).

๐ŸŽฏ What We Are Hiring For

Sits on the Compliance Team. Day-to-day, works closely with the Senior Content Moderator; the function overall reports to Maxwelle Sokol (Legal & Safety Lead). Reviews and approves/rejects user-generated content (video, image, text) against platform standards, documenting the basis for each decision. Runs safety/compliance reviews on in-house content and workflows (e.g. datasets, AI characters). Acts on content flagged by internal detection systems, and tags/categorizes content for correct visibility across the platform.

Our platform is an adult-content AI companionship product, so reviewing sexually explicit material and adult themes is a normal, core part of the daily workload โ€” not an occasional exception. The profile: reviews content carefully, applies policy consistently, identifies violations/risk, makes judgment calls when content is ambiguous, escalates appropriately, works reliably at volume, and maintains quality/accuracy.

โ›”๏ธ Screening Criteria

  • Moderation judgment โ€” can follow policy, distinguish allowed vs. prohibited content, handle ambiguous/borderline cases, explain their reasoning, and escalate when appropriate.
  • Attention to detail โ€” concrete examples where accuracy and consistency mattered, ideally with real throughput/accuracy numbers.
  • Reliability / operational execution โ€” sustained accuracy and consistency at volume, not just a one-off good call.
  • Communication โ€” explains decisions clearly, reads context/slang/intent correctly, and raises or escalates issues appropriately.
  • Coverage / working hours โ€” Philippines/Southeast Asia preferred to strengthen global coverage; candidates elsewhere in Asia qualify if their working hours provide the same required coverage. This is a timezone/coverage need, not a nationality requirement.
๐Ÿค–

AI usage is a positive signal for this role, not a hard requirement. Familiarity with AI tools is a strong positive signal, but its absence is not disqualifying โ€” unlike Ruby Engineer, Product Designer, Senior Product Manager, or AI Cinematic Video Editor, where it is mandatory.

๐Ÿ“ Target Company Pools

Tied directly to the Prior Content Moderation Experience requirement above โ€” used to verify genuine, direct moderation experience rather than a generic customer-support seat.

CategoryTarget companies
In-house โ€” large consumer platforms (Trust & Safety) โ€” real, direct exposure to moderation queues, policy enforcement, and escalation workflows at meaningful scale Meta, TikTok/ByteDance, Reddit, Discord, Twitch, Match Group. Much of this work is actually outsourced to a BPO vendor โ€” confirm they were directly employed by the platform itself, not a contractor.
In-house โ€” adult content & AI companion platforms โ€” direct, in-house content moderation experience on NSFW/adult content OnlyFans, Fansly, Chaturbate, Stripchat, ManyVids, LiveJasmin, Aylo/Mindgeek (past employees only), Replika, Character.AI, Chai. Confirm they were a direct employee of the platform, not a vendor/agency contractor placed there. Aylo/Mindgeek is off-limits for current employees only โ€” past employees who've left are fine to approach (see Off-Limits Companies). LiveJasmin is handle-with-care โ€” targeted outreach only for candidates with confirmed interest, never bulk/broad outreach.
BPO / Trust & Safety outsourcing (Philippines & Asia) โ€” a larger, more available pool, and often where this same work happens in practice โ€” acceptable, but not the first choice given a direct in-house preference TaskUs, Teleperformance, Concentrix, Foundever, Sutherland, Alorica, WNS, iQor, Genpact. Confirm they worked an actual Trust & Safety/content-moderation queue, not a general customer-support seat at the same company.

๐Ÿšฉ Red Flags

๐Ÿšซ
  • Uncomfortable with daily explicit/NSFW exposure, or treats it as occasional/incidental rather than the core of the job.
  • Claims direct Trust & Safety/platform experience that turns out to be a general customer-support seat, or a vendor/BPO placement rather than direct employment (see Target Company Pools above).
  • Inconsistent application of policy/guidelines, or purely mechanical checklist-following with no judgment on ambiguous cases.
  • Cannot explain the reasoning behind a past moderation decision, or gives vague/generic examples.
  • Poor attention to detail โ€” can't point to concrete accuracy/consistency evidence.
  • Weak English comprehension of context, slang, or intent.
  • Not comfortable with, or unable to commit to, the required working hours/coverage.
  • Vague personal ownership in prior moderation/operational work โ€” relies on "the team" rather than their own decisions.

Do not reject a candidate merely for being outside the Philippines if their location and working hours satisfy the required coverage. Do not reject a BPO/outsourced Trust & Safety background outright โ€” it's an accepted, if secondary, pool โ€” provided the candidate demonstrates genuine queue experience and the judgment above.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Recruiter Screening Questions

โ„น๏ธ

Use these questions during your screening call. Include a summary of the candidate's answers in your submission notes in Ashby.

  1. Our platform is an adult-content AI companionship product โ€” you'd be reviewing and discussing sexually explicit material and adult themes daily, as the core of the job, not incidentally.
    • Are you fully comfortable with that?
    • Have you worked with sensitive content before โ€” NSFW, or CSAM-adjacent detection/removal/DMCA work? (Not required โ€” a bonus if so.)

Establish genuine comfort with this through discussion โ€” don't accept a generic "yes, NSFW is fine" without probing.

  2. What are you doing currently, and why are you considering a move?
  3. Walk me through your content moderation experience โ€” what platform, what type of content, what volume, and what tools did you use?
  4. Tell me about a specific piece of borderline or ambiguous content you had to make a call on. How did you interpret the guideline, what did you personally decide, and how did you document it?
  5. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a guideline or a manager's call on a piece of content โ€” what did you do?
  6. Give me an example where missing a small detail could have produced an incorrect outcome. What was your typical throughput and accuracy on that queue โ€” roughly how many items per hour or per shift, and what was your error rate, if tracked?
  7. This work can be psychologically demanding over time. How do you personally manage exposure to disturbing content?
  8. What's your current location and timezone, and what are your typical working hours? Can you provide the coverage this role needs?
  9. Compensation expectations / notice period / B2B?
  10. What questions do you have for me?

๐ŸŽฏ Strong Signals / Sourcing Guidance

Positive signals โ€” not automatic hard gates:

  • Experience moderating adult content specifically, or handling DMCA/copyright issues.
  • Fluency in additional languages.
  • Familiarity with common moderation tools and automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI tools โ€” don't reject a candidate solely for lacking it.
  • Adjacent backgrounds worth a look even without a literal "content moderation" title: Trust & Safety, platform/community operations, QA, fraud/risk operations, compliance operations, or customer/community support that regularly involved difficult content โ€” these support but don't replace the Top Requirement of real user-generated-content review experience at volume.

Sourcing tip: example of a strong profile for calibration โ€” similar skill set, though this candidate is Senior level (this seat is Junior/Mid): this LinkedIn profile.

Philippines/Southeast Asia is a priority sourcing pool because of the coverage need โ€” not because of nationality. Qualification stays tied to working-hours coverage plus the capability bar above.
